Sam Sparro brings the funk with his eponymous debut, showing off his R&B chops on 'Too Many Questions.' He merges retro electro with a modern pop sensibility. '21st Century Life' has a funk bass that grooves without regret, and 'Waiting For Time' and 'Still Hungry' dive into easygoing romance. 'Pocket' carries a foot-tapping energy, and 'Cut Me Loose' seems to have beamed right from the 80s. The the standout is undoubtedly the hit single 'Black and Gold,' with its smooth glam drive. Amongst an album of pleasing tracks, it stands out bright.
