Does anybody have any experience with AutoCAD and voice recognition programs. Specifically, Dragon naturally speaking and AutoCAD 07 and or soft desk and LANDesk. I would be interested in anyone who has experimented with implementing Dragon NaturallySpeaking and AutoCAD to speed up the drafting process. Feel free to e-mail me at kilroyishear@aol.com.I will log on to this discussion groups in a couple days. I look forward to two hearing from people who have tried using voice recognition with AutoCAD is my dream to have a simple pointer on my finger and a voice recognition program to enable me to use AutoCAD without a mouse and give my poor tired wrist break.Sincerely,Robert.

I haven't tried it in years. I'd have to dig up the box to see if Dragon wasthe author but Naturally Speaking sound familiar. I did start to get someresults but abandoned it quickly. The main problem is that you need to speakdistinctly with some volume (at least back then). Since I work in an officeenvironment cube farm I couldn't speak at sufficient volume withoutdisturbing the rest of the office. If you work on your own or at home I may work out for you.

As long as anyfamily or significant others don't mind hearing Zoom, Pan, Line etc. Allday.Allenwrote in message news:5758859@discussion.autodesk.com.does anybody have any experience with AutoCAD and voice recognitionprograms.

Hey Alan,I know exactly what you mean, right now I'm dictating this with my dragon NaturallySpeaking software. I'm using version 9.1. Perhaps you're using an older version of Dragon.

I have had some success with the, but my AutoCAD is rusty, and I need to brush up on my skills. Hoping to find a program or a update or add-on that will allow Dragon to you work with Autodesk proverbially AutoCAD and softness. Thanks for your input, Alan. I look forward to your further input, and hopefully other people's experience with this program.I have dictated this reply to you without touching the keyboard. The Dragon software version 9.1 is very good. I look forward to applying this to many applications.

And I really hope that I can get it to work with AutoCAD and Autodesk products. As anyone who's worked on the computer for years, understands problems with your wrists and fingers and being able to command more and more with your voice and other commands for the ease of operations is something we strive to do.Sincerely,Rob. I've been playing with it recently. 9.5x standard. It works fine.

Voice Activated Devices

Better out of the box recognition. I just got tired of saying 'Space' after every command, so I figured out how to add a spoken word that returns a 'New Line' or enter key.Now I say 'stretch' 'return' With standard or preferred you can only add words to the regular vocabulary. I tried to add a space at the end of a witten word but it doesn't get saved. Commands can only be added with the professional. I believe once programmed in a 'command set/list' that list can be distributed to others with only standard or preferred.

(Anybody got $900?)The silly thing is that microsoft office's speech recognition adds a space after every word, so that I only have to speak the command and it starts, but then i'm either backspacing, or I get spaces in the text. I find it strange that a leading CAD program is not even listed as one of the applications in the command browser.Thanks,Rich. Hi, I've been looking for fellow autocad / voice recognition users for years now. I have used Dragon versions 6 through 10 professional. I've used it with a number of technical software like Autocad, Arcview, Specialized Mining Dispatch software.

Recorder

Databases etc.As long as you know the software you use and how you use it, customizing dragon to your needs just takes a bit of time. Hi;I have both good and bad news.Bad news first. The preferred version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking does not let you create custon commands or import custom commands individually.Good news next. There are a few options.1.

If you are familiar with using the command line to enter commands you can add a spoken form of your command and a written form to the vocabulary editor. I believe preferred lets you do that. Then if you want to create an mview for example you can say 'make new view' or what ever you chose to put as the spoken form. Dragon will then type the written form you entered which is 'mview'. You will still have to say press enter to start the command.2. You can run all the pull down menus just by voice anyway. If you want to draw a circle using 3 points then:Say 'draw', wait for menu to open, say 'Circle', wait for menu to open, say 'two'3.

The above example is faster if you just say the word circle and then say press enter after a short pause.4. You can have someone with a professional version of Dragon Naturally speaking or a Nuance partner do custom commands for you. They will need to have a complete copy of your profile and the cmds.dat file.

They m,ay also need you to train the commands before they are imported as a whole package back to your computer.5. You could buy the professional upgrade. But I recommend playing with preferred for a bit to see what it can and can't do.

This will help you figure out which commands you use most in autocad and what you want to custom program.6. I can send you an xml file of my commands, you can then view it and get some idea of how the custom commands work.

They are only as useful as you make them. The commands are set up to do specific things. If the autocad menu option or command name changes with the next version then you have to update your dragon command to match the change. Any commands that point to specific pixcel loations on the screen will be affected by screen resolution changes.Anyway, I've found any version of dragon is a life saver. I hope you do too.Edited by: lll3 on May 14, 2009 12:13 PMEdited by: lll3 on May 14, 2009 12:14 PM. Voice2CAD was developed specifically for detailers using 3D programs and Autocad. Unlike older speech recognition software, Voice2CAD uses AI to handle thousands of different voice commands super quickly and accurately so it doesn't slow down workflow.

In my case, it has sped everything up tremendously. Voice2CAD works with almost every drafting software to allow you to voice activate every dimension, command, and commonly used phrases in lieu of typing them out. It's also is capable of opening any file, software, folder, or webpage simply by saying the name of it you provide. Best of all, it stores all of this information in excel so it's easy to create and share separate templates or macros for the different drafting software within our community. Hi, I have exactly the same problem. I would love to be able to edit my notes on drawings but every time that I try, it freezes both programs (Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional and AutoCAD LT 2019/2020) and my only way out of that is to reboot the machine. I’m finding this extremely frustrating and time-consuming.

At present what I do is to dictate the changes/notes into Microsoft Word and then copy and paste them into AutoCAD. The only problem is that I occasionally forget to turn the microphone off and even a cough or sneeze in freezes the whole machine and I could lose hours of work.Hi to would be very appreciative of an answer as I find typing very difficult because of arthritis. If anyone does have an answer for me, please email me on.Kind regards, Dave.

Hey Dave,If you want a better solution I would advise Voice2CAD. It runs in the background and uses very minimal PC resources. It was designed specifically for autocad and other resource heavy software unlike other speech software like dragon. You can get a free trial on my website. I am the creator of the software and developed it because I ended up getting debilitating arthritis in both my wrists and fingers. I offer a considerable discount for individuals with disabilities such as yours.

Email me at voice2cad@gmail.com and I can answer any questions and show you how the software can be Tailored specifically to your workflow. I have reversed all of my carpal tunnel and arthritis issues utilizing this software with my current 60+ hour work weeks drafting structural steel. Hope to hear from you soon!Joseph Hamill.
